Makers for heroes- volunteering in a 3 day Makeathon for wounded veterans .
Before and during the event we met a dear man named Amit, an IDF wounded soldier who had a severe road accident with a multi-systemic injury during the military service. He had undergone a long and hard restoration and remained with a neurological weakness in the left hand that causes restricted movement of the elbow and the opening of the fingers in the hands. The solution that we made to him was simple and genius (according to the judges at the event) – we sewed pockets along an elastic sock into which we inserted a spring steel wire.
We also fitted him with a special glove on the left hand that exerts opening forces on his fingers and allows him to release his hand and open his fingers after closing.
We are proud to say that we have won the first place on this solution, but winning this event is not important at all… What is important is that he is able to do things by himself that he could not have done in the last 11 years like brushing his teeth and safely holding his little daughter.
